I highly recommend Upstate Canine Academy where I trained with Zach Burt in private sessions working my way up to group classes. Zach is a superior dog trainer. He has a deep understanding of all aspects of dog training. He is empathic to both dog and owner recognizing their individual needs and personalities. When I first contacted Upstate Canine Academy, I didn’t have much hope that they could help me with my six year old rescue who was very reactive to other dogs. We had taken many dog training classes over the years but with little success. However, Zach quickly assessed my dog’s personality and needs. Zach trained me, helped me understand why my dog reacted to other dogs and how to manage his reaction. He showed me how to properly use various collars and other training equipment. This training gave me the confidence I needed to properly handle my dog. Finally, the group classes with other dogs are so well managed by all the trainers that I no longer have anxiety about walking my dog in a setting where there are other dogs. Prior to going to Upstate Canine Academy, my dog and I were frequently charged, chased, and jumped on by off leash dogs at the local park. Unfortunately their owners ignored the local leash law and had no control over their dogs. This was a traumatizing experience. However, at Upstate Canine Academy the group classes have rules that are enforced. Dog owners must use proper equipment, not get too close to other dogs or drop leashes. These group classes have helped desensitize myself and my dog to the presence of other dogs. Now I can enjoy walking my dog. The quality of life for my dog and myself has greatly improved.
