Walking with Walter Dog Training offers training for every dog and family along the Colorado Front Range. We specialize in advanced and basic obedience. In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. Like any relationship, communication is the key to success. Our training starts with a strong foundation built on the basics. We believe that a well-trained dog listens to its owners and will remain obedient regardless of the circumstances. Our balanced approach yields consistent results. I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

We went to Lawren based on multiple recommendations from friends. Our Dachshund developed a fear of just about everything resulting in barking at strangers, visitors and just about any unknown sounds. We couldn’t walk him to the park without consistent outburst of loud aggressive barking. Lawren provided some practical, sound training for us to redirect his attention back to us, and begin for him to feel secure and confident. He assigned homework each week to help him (and us) progress. Today Theo is a different dog. We still need to continue to work with him to progress and build confidence but we can take him for walks without barking at strangers and is manageable with visitors. Lawren is an absolute master and we highly recommend him. Thank you Lawren!!

We dropped of our little American Bully, Poli with Lawren this past spring and what a great experience. More importantly, the follow through is what amazed me. I was able call with questions and he held my hand and spent the time with me on the phone. Our sessions were always productivity. He is even making house calls for us to see what we see and to teach US how to act while training our dogs. I never felt like he was going "through the motions" and we were just another dog. I highly highly recommend Lawren. He'll quickly become your training security blanket and I'm so glad I have him as my go to resource.
We love the training our Lindsay has received. We started when she was a puppy. Lawren is a training expert. He has addressed all of our concerns and has taught us so much about having a well behaved dog. He has worked with everyone in our family including a grandmother. He makes training a dog intuitive. We are thankful for him as we love our well behaved pup.
My dog was very unpredictable around people and hard to handle. She was very nervous and unsure. After a 2 week board and train I have a much more confident dog and tools to keep training her into a good family pet. He gave me a dog that can go on outings and be relaxed which is a dream. This was hands down the best decision I have made for her, she is a new dog.
