Walking with Walter Dog Training offers training for every dog and family along the Colorado Front Range. We specialize in advanced and basic obedience. In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. Like any relationship, communication is the key to success. Our training starts with a strong foundation built on the basics. We believe that a well-trained dog listens to its owners and will remain obedient regardless of the circumstances. Our balanced approach yields consistent results.     THE BOARD AND TRAIN PROGRAM IS A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ERASE BAD BEHAVIORS AND CREATE NEW HABITS. THE GOAL IS TO GIVE THE DOG A FOUNDATION THAT CAN BE BUILT UPON. THE FOLLOW UP AT HOME SESSIONS WILL BE 80% FOR YOU AND 20% FOR THE DOG.

I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?

If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?

It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?

You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?

I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?

Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

I cannot say enough good things about Walking With Walter. The difference in our dog after just a couple of sessions was noticed by a number of neighbors as I've been walking our dog through the neighborhood. Our dog used to drag me through the streets and was pretty put of control and now I feel like the one in control. We can go on nice, leisurely walks and when I stop she now sits by my side. Also, no more bolting out our door (obvious problem). I really appreciate that Lawren gave us the tools and skills to be able to continue her training and build confidence in having a well behaved, confident pup with our family!

Lawren is amazing and you will see results in your dog immediately- even if you have a knucklehead like I do! The techniques are simple, easy to understand and replicate. Lawren is super professional and worth every penny. Highly recommend!

Was referred to Walking with Walter by a neighbor to help with my stubborn and energetic new puppy. After a week of boarding with him and the three follow up sessions, the difference is immeasurable. She listens better, is more attentive and most importantly always engaged. Lawren was very helpful and made all of the training relatable to real life scenarios. Would definitely recommend.

Our friend recommended Lawren at “Walking with Walter” when we were desperate to teach our new fearful, 110 pound rescue dog how to get into our car . . . a real feat when he, “Goose,” wouldn’t even go near the car. The desperation was that we were on a very limited time schedule as in a few day, we were taking Goose home with us to CA. Lawren immediately built a rapport with Goose and with us, improving both of our confidences. In one training, we learned way more useful dog training tips than just how to get the dog in the car! We acknowledge that instructing us, the owners, had to be more frustrating than training the dog! Yet Lawren was positive, knowledgeable, and patient the whole time. We are extremely grateful for the lessons he taught Goose and us. Tomorrow we head home to CA with a dog who now willing jumps into the car! Mission Plus accomplished! Our only regret is that we will be too far to continue the valuable training with Lawren. Thanks, Lawren!
