Well Balanced Dog Training

Well balanced has been such an incredible blessing in our lives. As someone who always prefers older rescue dogs who may have some additional "baggage" I have always struggled with positive reinforcement training. It always felt superficial and never enough to make a true difference in training us as owners, but also training our dog in how to behave around other dogs. As all rescue dogs are, my dog is amazing I love her so much but she definitely has had a lot of problems with leash aggression, general dog aggression, and separation anxiety. Before coming to well-balanced we had several training sessions with other trainers, invested hundreds of dollars, and started to feel hopeless that we would not see progress with these problems. Our first session with Meaghen was LIFE CHANGING! She is the first trainer I have met that genuinely understands the dog, what they are feeling in a moment, how to identify what the dog is feeling. She helped us as owners to learn the place command and how this could be transformed from something simple to really being the leader of the pack and providing further communication from us to our dog, and our dog to us. I can very very proudly say that my dog now has made several best friends at daycare, and at home. Even with dogs larger than her which would be her most likely trigger time she has done AMAZING (See photo of my dog (left) laying perfectly undisturbed with a dog 1.5x her size)! I went from an owner being terrified of every single dog on dog leash walking interaction to now having full control on leash knowing that if another dog runs up to us that I can manage my dog. We recognize that training is never perfect, we still have a lot to work on (mainly separation anxiety which has improved but is a difficult thing to crack), but Meaghen has helped us and is there for us since the first training session we have. You will not regret going to Well Balanced! Plus shout out to the rest of the daycare staff. They are all so sweet, giving honest feedback about how daycare went with the dogs to let you know if there is anything to work on, and it is so so evident they truly love every dog. It is so different from other big daycares I've gone to in the past where you dog is thrown into a pen and is just a number. They truly care about your dog and work with your dog to improve everyday. My dog is excited from the moment we get in the car to the moment we get to their front door everyday. I started taking puppy classes with the WBD team and I can't say enough positive things about it! My pup Paisley loves going to class and since taking her she's become much more focused and walks better on leash. Even though I'm a seasoned dog owner the staff have taught me so many new ways to help Paisley learn her commands...plus there's something about watching a group of puppies play together (in a safe environment) that's so heart warming❤️

They have been spectacular with my German shepherd. We found WBDT when our dog was being very reactive to other dogs and we were at a loss of what to do. We had a series of private sessions which taught us so much! We then joined the reactive dog classes and it was amazing to see other families going through similar struggles. Our dog now attends the Play and Learn group a few times a week and loves it. She had started making friends and we get daily reports about her day. I would definitely recommend WBDT to anyone and everyone!

Pete, our 7 months old German Short-haired Pointer, was in dire need of some tough love WBDT-style. Our frustration level in trying to deal with his increasingly manic behavior in the afternoons, as well as his stubborn streak, was incredibly high in our home. After some reading and research, I reached out to WBDT to see if they would be able help us out with Pete. They were incredibly responsive and helpful, suggesting a Board and Train program. That was exactly what I was looking for, and we made arrangements to drop Pete off at the facility the very next day. The staff was fantastic and made it relatively easy to leave Pete. They were friendly, professional, and showed authentic concern not only for Pete, but also for his people (us!). They asked a lot of questions, being sure they understood what our issues were at home, and offered us hope that Pete was a good dog and that they could help him learn to regulate himself and make better choices. I received update calls weekly. They were informative and personal. It was clear that they were getting to know Pete and his idiosyncrasies. I never felt rushed, and they took the time to answer all of my questions about how he was doing and what it would look like when Pete came home. The day finally arrived. We scheduled a 2-hour block at the WBDT facility with each of our family members in attendance. We sat quietly while we had our reintroduction to our little Pete. We heard what he had gone through, what training techniques had been used, and then each one of us was taken through his paces so that we were all comfortable with handling what we were going to be asking Pete to do at home. Fast forward two weeks. We've been diligently following the directions we received from WBDT. It's been quite a bit of work, to be sure, but the difference in the dog makes it 100% worth the effort. We now have a well mannered young pup. He walks on a loose leash. He sits. He will maintain a place command for about 90 minutes. He rides in the car. He tolerates his crate. He's got a lot of structure now, and he seems to be thriving with it. I cannot express the level of satisfaction we have with WBDT. Our experience has been entirely positive. Pete is one again a cherished member of our family.
