Yuruani Olguin Dog Training

When you hire someone to train your dog, you're really hiring them to train YOU. And Yuri is amazing at this. She uses positive reinforcement training, which means using treats and affection to reward good behavior and not giving attention to or redirecting from unwanted behavior. As the dog gets the hang of each command, you gradually phase out the treats. We hired Yuri to help with basic obedience training for our new 1-year-old rescue pup - a terrier mix named Dolly - and we were super impressed from our very first session. Yuri provided clear instructions, got my husband and I very involved in the training, and gave us suggestions on how to increase the difficulty on our own time once Dolly mastered a skill. We are so impressed with the progress we were able to make with Dolly in 4 lessons. We literally get stopped on the street by other dog owners who say they wish their dogs walked on a leash as well as she does! To me, the biggest thing we got out of training with Yuri was not necessarily that Dolly now knows a bunch of commands - it's that we have a framework for how to communicate with our dog, handle difficult behavior, and continue training on our own in the future. In the two months since our last training session with Yuri, we've been able to continue training on our own - tricks like roll over, high five, wave, and jumping into her carrier bag, plus obedience work on things like heel and off-leash walking. We never would have been able to make this kind of progress on our own without the fundamental framework Yuri taught us. Yuri provided wonderful training suggestions in helping our 8 month old puppy with his loose leash walking. She broke down the process into simple steps that we could practice indoors first, with concepts and rules that Piko very easily followed and understood. We have three dogs and have worked with various trainers over the years but Yuri's style, personality and professionalism took the cake. She also wasn't watching the clock waiting for the second our session ended to leave- she was very generous with her time and went above and beyond.

Yuruani is a LIFE SAVER! We adopted a 2 year old dog and were completely lost until our dog walkers suggested we speak to her about dog training. We had very specific goals for our little one and from the moment we met with Yuruani, we knew we would like to go on with the training. She is very flexible, extremely knowledgeable, patient, loving and so much more! We decided to go for the 10 lesson plan which she organized with our goals in mind. We had sessions in a variety environments, starting at home and increased the level of difficulty by changing environment at a variety of public places including Grand Central, walks on the street, Central Park, etc. Yuruani always knew the right moment to advance the training without frustration, the right reward and each lesson was a success.
