UberDog Training

I adopted a 6 month old pitbull that was severely traumatized and had become highly dog aggressive. I interviewed many trainers before I decided on UberDog Training and it was the best decision I could have made. Greg and Katrina work with me, teaching me techniques to help my dog deal with his “issues”. In just a few months we have gone from a dog that tried to full on attack every other dog he came across to a dog that goes to group classes with other dogs without incident. The training goes so much further than the simple sit, down, stay. They teach you to communicate with your dog in a way that your dog understands what it is being asked to do. My dog now focuses on me and ignores the other dogs. I absolutely adore my dog and now other people get to see why. Without UberDog I‘m afraid the outcome for my dog would have been a lot worse.

When we first looked into Uberdog, it seemed like a great deal; four private lessons and a lifetime of group lessons for a flat fee of $1075. We met both trainers briefly and they seemed competent and knowledgeable. During the private lessons, which ranged from 30 – 60 minutes each, we learned basic commands and how to use a shock collar. As instructed, we practiced with our dog several times a day for about five minutes. In short, the private lessons were adequate. We were instructed to start group classes and that is when things became disappointing. Our particular pooch is super excitable with other dogs and people. Our first group lesson was just okay. Other class members worked on the place command and we struggled to keep our dog under control among so many other people and animals. At one point a frustrated trainer told me I needed to handle him better. At that same time, the other trainer was making off-handed remarks about my children being a distraction (we had confirmed they could come to lessons before we signed the contract). The second class was horrible. I went alone because my husband was refused to go back. With around 15 other dogs present I found myself totally overwhelmed. My dog was so excited he would not listen to voice commands and the shock collar was useless. To top things off, by their words and actions I felt the trainers were annoyed with me, as though I was the cause of the crazed puppy at the end of the leash. What I didn’t feel was the lifetime support they offer, or any clear direction in how to handle my dog when what they had taught me clearly wasn’t working. I ultimately left in frustration before the class even started. We will continue to work with our dog using what we learned in the private lessons. And we have identified resources at Petsmart to help us with socialization in a small, controlled environment. But I am doubtful that I will return to an Uberdog group class (my husband certainly will not); they are too big and I didn’t feel we had enough guidance. Before signing with Uberdog I highly recommend you consider how you and your dog will do in the large group classes because that is what you are really paying for. If you factor out the group classes, we spent roughly $268 for each of the 4 private lessons. I could have spent $109 for 6 weeks’ worth of classes at Petsmart, learned the exact same commands, and would be in the same place I am today…only $966 richer.

I came to Uberdog because I have a wonderful, energetic, cocker spaniel mix named Ellie. She loves to walk but was a huge leash puller. At our demo, Katrina agreed with me the Ellie loved to walk but Ellie and I both needed training on how to make our walks enjoyable. My first lesson was with Greg and the day after that lesson Ellie was walking at my side on her leash. Now 6 months into our training Ellie is a whole new dog, we constantly get compliments on her good behavior and she even walks by my side with no leash! Ellie and I love going to classes with Katrina and Greg and look forward to all the things we will learn in the future!!

My husband and I got our golden retriever, Izzy, at 6 weeks old. After about a week, I was in tears every day, completely frustrated, and frankly ready to take her back to the breeder. My husband suggested getting some training and not giving up, so we met with a couple of different trainers. The minute Greg came to the house and interacted with Izzy, I knew THIS was the training we needed/wanted. I can say, without a doubt, it was the best decision we could have made. Greg did the majority of our in home training and Izzy quickly learned the basics. The group classes have been amazing for her. We've been doing training with Uberdog now for almost a full year and I can not believe how absolutely awesome my dog is! The fact that they offer classes 7 days a week makes it incredibly easy to have training fit into your schedule, no matter how busy you are. I am completely comfortable now having Izzy offleash, at class and in our everyday life. Greg & Katrina are both WONDERFUL trainers and there isn't a dog out there that wouldn't benefit from their training (owners too!).
